Break camp at seven. Six miles to portage into Missanabie Lake. Seven or eight miles to lunch. We sail most of morning & after lunch with a stiff south

wind, making our destination at five minutes to four. Mr Christie in charge of the post, which we find very poorly stocked. We all spend a happy musical evening under his roof – tea – the

Bishop & his “formidable party” of females likewise present. Treaty made in evening Alick. Peekotay is elected chief.

Thursday, July 26

The Band is paid in the morning – the Bishop remaining to obtain his tithe. Heavy rain in afternoon.

Friday, July 27

Very hot day. Bishop leaves early. Doctor Meindl concludes his work & Indian dies in evening.
