Payments concluded & new treaty made. Feast held after which flag is presented to chief…..makes a speech which is curiously twisted in the interpretation by Godchere – The speech was to the effect that the Indians would like the price of furs at HBC to be higher & the price of goods lower, & that they should be permitted to trade where they pleased. Godchere said that the chief was very pleased with the way that the HBC treated the Indians & was glad that the HBC & the government were working together!

Tremain holds a pow-wow & the evening closes with a soi-distant Indian dance.
