Question: Do you remember ever hearing your parents or grandparents ever talking about Treaty?
John: Yes, I hear about it, I hear today the elders talking about it, and I also heard the elders in the past talk about it, what the white people said.
Question: Do you recall what your parents, or grandparents or other elders said the white people said?
John: I am trying to repeat what I heard the elders say about it. They had been promised help in all forms by the white people, at that time back then there was language barrier problems…. Today you can’t get very far without an education, you have to get an education before you can work… in the past our grandfathers didn’t have that kind of education but they had knowledge of how to survive and how to look after themselves.
Question: Do you recall what else the elders said that the Commissioners told the people?
John: I can only repeat what the elders said. They promised them assistance and they used the grass as an example, and the waters flowing, that is how long it would last. I still see the grass growing… the promises that the white people made to our grandfathers, they are breaking them now, they have neglected to provide the assistance that they were promised.
