The purpose of the NAN Treaty website is to promote education and awareness to the Ojibway, Oji-Cree, and Cree people of Nishnawbe Aski territory and the general public about Treaty No. 9 and No. 5.
In 1876, the Commissioners made adhesions to Treaty No. 5. Among the groups who signed the Adhesions were the people living at Grand Rapids.
The James Bay Treaty, Treaty No. 9, is one of the numbered treaties signed by Canada with the Ojibway and Cree people in northern Ontario.
